Mountain Mail 10/24/19 VOLUME 2

Here we are again! There is so much more to share. Even though today didn’t quite turn out as expected, I am glad to be able to post memories of cooler days in Montana de Oro, and to look forward to future happenings when the winds and heat have passed.

There is a lot of information, please read all the way to the end… but first more THANKS!

Elena Arroy ( Isabella’s mom) has been keeping our “tuck shop” filled with the most delicious offerings. A wonderful way to support TMS and make sure there is always something good to eat on campus!

Pablo Schreiber (Timo’s dad) has purchased us a new and state of the art basket ball back drop. We are so excited to replace our well worn - and well used - broken one! Thank you Pablo! And added thanks to Tate Ammons (Jack’s dad) who has been busy disassembling the old and putting the new one in place so we can actually use it.

And in a no fuss but amazingly helpful way, week after week, Aaron Flores (Rueben’s dad) make sure all our vans are filled with gas to ensure we have hassle free field trips!

So grateful for all our incredible supporters.

Mark your calendars:

Thursday October 31st - Halloween

We welcome the children coming in costume this day and sharing in the fun and excitement that I am sure will continue well into the evening. It will be business as usual for classes, but with the added magic of their imaginations and creativity thrown in.

Please keep costumes fun and appropriate; school is not the place for anything really scary, adult in nature or to showcase insensitivity to others.

Friday November 1st - High School Informational Meeting @ 6pm

Caitlin Wrobel (Will’s mom) will open her home as we gather to share information and gain clarity into possible high school options for your child. This meeting is mainly for parents of our graduating students, but if you are in younger grades and want to start thinking in advance, please feel free to join us.

Caitlin’s address can be found on your roster. Caitlin will provide refreshment.

Change of Date - Community Hike

We had previously advertised our first Community Hike for November 3rd. However, we are changing that date to November 17th.

November 4th-8th - Joy out of the office

I will be out of the office and off to Portland where I will be playing “Nana” for the week. I will still be receiving emails and texts and in working mode. However, please contact Liz or Katie for on campus questions and concerns.

Monday November 11th - NO SCHOOL Veterans Day

Sunday November 17th - Community Hike. Trippett Ranch to Eagle Rock - 10am start

Join us for this first community hike of the year. Alumni families, current families and assorted friends gather to enjoy the great outdoors and the great company!

Friday November 22nd - LACMA. Late start for students - 1pm. Evening activities from 5pm.

This is always a fun time - if traffic doesn’t put a damper on getting there! The students spend the afternoon at the museum and then parents join us on the grass for a picnic at 5pm.

Jazz does become rather secondary, but you can use this link to see who is playing https://www.lacma.org/event/jazz-lacma-douye

We hope you can join us. Bring your own blankets, lawn chairs, and picnic and spend sometime at this local cultural treasure and with your TMS community! Jazz starts at 6pm. The museum is open to 8pm so if you want there is time to catch some great exhibitions https://www.lacma.org/art/exhibitions/current

Logistics will be addressed closer to the date.

Monday November 25 - Wednesday 27 -Parent Conferences - NO SCHOOL

Many of you have already signed up. Please use this link if you have not yet done so - or to confirm your time.

Thursday 28th - Friday 29th Thanksgiving - No School

Saturday December 7th

Saturday December 7th - TMS Winter Festival

A complete change of pace! We have moved our annual gathering into the cooler month of December and renamed it! But we guarantee all the same great fun. Fabulous live music, great food, drinks, games, crafts, raffle and silent auction, and a host of vendors to make your holiday shopping easy and enjoyable.

Make sure to mark the date and tell your friends and family. Flyer will be posted separately for you to forward and share!

Information about how you can help and what we need from our entire community will be posted in a separate blog. So looking forward to getting this show rolling. Thanks to Caitlin (Will’s mom) for stepping up to make sure this runs smoothly and to all our parents who have already jumped on board to help… this event needs all of us, so don’t worry, there will be plenty of jobs for all!!

Wednesday December 11th Open House and Picnic on the Mesa 12:00 - 2:30pm

Please bring your own picnic and join us for a casual lunch time showcase of what the children have been up to on the mesa on Wednesdays. Students will share their experiences in aerial silks, horse riding, archery, woodworking, ceramics, all their art classes!

Students may go home with you directly afterwards. For those whose parents cannot attend students will be returned to school and Pine Tree for the regular pick up time.

Wednesday December 18th - TMS Annual Art Show and Holiday Party @ 6pm

Please join us at Canoga Park Youth Art Center for this incredible showcase of the student’s art as well as a spirited celebration of the passing of another calendar year.

MONTANA DE ORO 2019 - MEMORIES

And finally, what you have all been waiting for: the photos to go along with the stories I’m sure you’ve heard, the sand you are probably still finding everywhere, and I hope the independence you are seeing from your child!!

Peace ~ Joy
